When Your Face Follows You Around Orchard MRT

Today, I went down to TEL MRT station at Orchard to see something quite surreal.

Yesterday, Dr Isaac told me he had spotted me in the Team Healthcare advertisement there. I was surprised because I thought the campaign would only be out in June or July.

Since I was in town today, I decided to check it out for myself.

Walking over from Orchard MRT station to the TEL MRT station, I was greeted by a large LED wall at the foyer — and there I was, featured in the ad.

It is a strange feeling to stare at yourself on such a big screen. Part of me felt shy. Part of me felt proud. And part of me was thinking, “Wah, why my face so big?” 😅

At the same time, I felt very grateful and honoured to be part of this campaign, representing the stroke community and depicting a stroke survivor undergoing physiotherapy.

For many stroke survivors, physiotherapy is not just exercise. It can be a real struggle — a battle of will and determination when the body does not listen or respond the way it used to.

Looking around the MRT station, I also saw the ads on digital signages and MRT doors. It was surreal to see my face appearing in so many places. I went to check out one ad, but somehow ended up surrounded by myself.

Very dramatic.

Very Orchard. 😂

This campaign is part of Team Healthcare.sg, which highlights the many people and professions working together in Singapore’s public healthcare system.

The line in the ad really touched me:

“On this team, we do not just show up. We show up for one another.”

That is exactly what recovery feels like.

After my stroke, many people showed up for me — doctors, therapists, nurses, caregivers, family, friends, and the wider stroke community. Each one played a part in helping me move forward.

For me, this is more than just appearing in an advertisement. It is about visibility, representation, and reminding others that stroke survivors are still here — rebuilding, relearning, and continuing to move forward.

And yes, seeing my face all over the MRT station was still very surreal.

A little funny.

A little overwhelming.

But deeply meaningful. 🙏
