Sunsets Are Proof That Endings Can Be Beautiful Too

Most of us fear endings.

We see them as loss. As failure.

As doors shutting, dreams dissolving, or time running out.

But what if we changed the way we see endings?

What if we saw them the way we see sunsets?

That moment in the photo—just me, standing quietly as the sun dipped beneath the skyline—wasn’t planned. I didn’t go out chasing a perfect shot or a profound thought. But as the sky glowed with warm colours, something in me softened. Something finally made sense.

That day, I realised:

Endings aren’t always about giving up.

Sometimes they’re about giving in—to peace, to closure, to the beauty of what was.

I’ve faced many endings.

The end of life as I knew it after my stroke.

The end of being able to communicate freely, express myself clearly, or even move with confidence.

But those endings made room for new beginnings I never expected.

Art.

Writing.

A new voice.

A quieter strength.

They led to books, to connections, to healing—and to learning how to live again. Not perfectly, but truthfully.

A sunset doesn’t rush.

It doesn’t ask for applause.

It simply shows up, does its job, and leaves the sky more beautiful than it found it.

That’s the kind of ending I want to live by.

If you’re going through an ending right now—a goodbye, a loss, a chapter closing—please know this:

You’re not broken. You’re becoming.

Let the light fade gently.

Let the colours change.

And trust that something beautiful is waiting just beyond the horizon.

Because sunsets are proof that endings can be beautiful too.

And so are you.
