SG60 – A Refreshed Spirit: Celebrating Unity and Resilience at SNSA’s National Day Celebration

Today, Singapore turns 60! 🎉 It’s a day that feels incredibly special to me. As Singapore celebrates its journey of growth, unity, and resilience, I reflect on my own path. I had the privilege of joining the Singapore National Stroke Association (SNSA) to celebrate, and it was an event full of joy, pride, and community spirit.

We kicked things off by singing the national anthem and reciting the pledge, which filled me with pride. The atmosphere was electrifying, with red and white everywhere. I reunited with old friends like Marianne, Dawn, Wendy, Irene(s), and of course, my idol Maya. 🙌

One of the highlights was the retro game—Balloon Bubble! It brought me straight back to my childhood. I couldn’t stop laughing, and Irene totally won with her giant bubble! 😄 It felt like I was a kid again, and the fun didn’t stop there.

The morning was filled with National Day-themed tattoos and nail stickers, and volunteers added so much to the fun. It reminded me of how important it is to find joy in even the smallest moments.

No celebration in Singapore is complete without food, and we indulged in delicious cupcakes and local bento sets. 🍰🍱 It was a perfect way to honor our nation’s culinary heritage.

I was also happy to meet Kevin Poh, the new Deputy Executive Director of SNSA, and reconnect with Angela Yeo, whom I first met almost two years ago. They’re both making a huge impact in the stroke survivor community.

As we celebrate SG60, I’m reminded of how far we’ve come. This celebration isn’t just about the milestones but also about how we work together. I'm proud to see more conversations about inclusivity for people with disabilities (PWDs). For too long, we were left out of discussions, but now there’s a growing awareness, and that makes me hopeful.

So, as I celebrate SG60, I carry not just pride but also hope for a more inclusive future. Together, let’s continue to build a brighter, stronger, and more united society.

A huge thank you to SNSA for organizing such a fantastic event. You truly made today a day to remember. 🙏

Happy National Day, Singapore! 🎉🇸🇬
