Paint Your Life as You Want - Not as Society Wants

There it was—my book, up in lights in Times Square.

If you had told me years ago that I’d be staring at my own face towering over New York City, I would’ve laughed. Hard. Then probably spilled my kopi.

But there it is.

Not just a book, but a journey.

A story that began in silence, frustration, and pain…

And somehow found its way to the most electric crossroads on Earth.

The Moment I Realised

I didn’t follow the script society laid out for me.

I tore it up and wrote my own.

After my stroke, the world seemed to expect me to fade quietly into the background.

 Recover, rest, maybe disappear.

But something inside me—call it hope, call it rebellion, call it stubborn Singaporean spirit—refused to let society define the rest of my story.

Instead, I picked up a pen.

 Then a brush.

 Then a mouse.

And I began to paint.

Paint What?

My fears.

 My fights.

 My funny moments.

 My future.

And now, that canvas has expanded from hospital bed sketches to bookshelves, blogs, and even billboards.

"Paint your life as you want, not as society wants."

Paint Boldly

We are all artists in our own right.

And life? It’s the biggest, wildest canvas there is.

Don’t wait for the world to give you permission to start.

Don’t let critics tell you to stay inside the lines.

Don’t follow someone else’s colour scheme.

You want your sky green and your road zigzagged? Go for it.

You want to write your next chapter in bold strokes of courage, love, and a little nonsense?

 Do it.

Because your story isn’t meant to be safe—it’s meant to be yours.

So pick up your brush.

And paint.

 Not for them.

 For you.
