A Cry in the Dark: A Stroke Survivor’s Story of Hope will always be very special to me. It was my debut book — the book that first introduced my story to many people and began a journey I could never have imagined.
This week, I am deeply grateful to see A Cry in the Dark included as one of 17 titles from Focus Publishing and Straits Times Press selected for the Singapore Pavilion at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2026.
To see this book — which grew out of one of the most difficult periods of my life — displayed on an international stage in Frankfurt is something I do not take for granted.
And then came another lovely surprise.
Ted Olczak, President & Publisher of Printed Word Reviews, BookCAMP and FALCON Review, is attending the Frankfurt Book Fair. While visiting the Singapore Pavilion, he spotted A Cry in the Dark, picked it up, took this wonderful photograph and sent it to me.
Ted wrote:
“Hello Terence, in Frankfurt, I held up ‘Cry in the Dark’ by the Singapore booth…”
Seeing Ted standing there, holding my very first book beneath the huge word SINGAPORE, made the moment feel even more meaningful.
Thank you, Ted, for thinking of me and for sending me this picture from Frankfurt. It means a great deal.
From a book created during recovery after stroke, to the Singapore Pavilion at the world’s largest international book fair — sometimes a story travels much further than its author ever imagined.
