Change Is Uncomfortable—But Necessary

Change doesn’t always knock politely. Sometimes, it kicks down the door, barges in uninvited, and rearranges everything you thought you knew.

I know this all too well.

When I suffered a stroke in 2020, change didn’t just visit—it took over my body, my speech, my independence, my life. In those early moments, I didn’t see transformation. I saw loss. I saw pain. I saw fear. I saw a future I no longer recognized.

But here’s what I’ve come to understand: change is uncomfortable, but necessary.

It strips away the old so something new can emerge. It pushes us past the borders we’ve drawn for ourselves. And yes, it often feels like chaos at first—but sometimes, it takes a mess to make something meaningful.

If you’re feeling the tension of change right now—good. That means you’re growing.

Growth doesn’t happen in comfort. It happens in the unfamiliar, the uncertain, the unsteady steps we take forward, even when we’re scared. It happens in the therapy sessions, in the quiet moments of doubt, in the journals we write when no one’s looking. It happens when we stop asking “Why me?” and start asking “What now?”

I’ve changed. Not by choice at first—but eventually, by intention.

And through that change, I’ve found parts of myself I never knew existed:

  • The artist who paints with purpose.
  • The writer who finds truth in silence.
  • The man who knows that a broken past can still build a beautiful future.

So if you’re resisting change—don’t. Trust that it’s taking you somewhere deeper, somewhere stronger. Somewhere more you.

Let it break you open—but not apart.

Let it reintroduce you to yourself.

Let it teach you that sometimes, the most powerful versions of us are born from discomfort.

Change is hard.

 But staying stuck is harder.

And who you’ll become on the other side of change?

 That’s someone worth meeting.
